Assistance with

Funeral Costs

Navigating funeral expenses can present challenges, and we recognise the significance of financial assistance during these difficult moments. Here are several avenues to explore for support:

1

The Social Fund:

Intended to aid individuals with limited income facing unforeseen expenses such as funeral costs.

Funds are accessible with certain constraints.

2

Bereavement Payments:

A tax-free lump sum payment of £2,000, provided once.

Eligibility requirements include National Insurance contributions (NICs) made by the deceased spouse or civil partner.

Available if below the State Pension age at the time of passing or if the deceased spouse or partner was not entitled to Category A main state Retirement Benefit.

Unavailable in cases of divorce, cohabitation, or incarceration.

3

Bereavement Allowance:

A taxable weekly benefit for up to 52 weeks following the loss of a spouse or civil partner.

Eligibility criteria include being aged 45 or older, not responsible for raising children, and not having reached the State Pension age.

The deceased spouse, wife, or civil partner must have made National Insurance contributions (NICs) or died due to an industrial accident or disease.
